Sarah Williamson

Creative Director - Jack Morton Worldwide

I am a creative director for Jack Morton, a brand experience agency where the company wide mission is to “Do Something Extraordinary”. That call to action is still a key part of the journey I am on to craft interesting work for clients. (for the past 10 years based in Hong Kong). I originally trained and graduated from Central Saint Martins (University of Arts London) and since then, have always used design as a way to express and initiate creative thinking. I have worked in the creative & design fields, guiding both conceptual and visual strategies across multiple experiences and live marketing initiatives for a variety of brands. Experience ranges across; bespoke high profile projects, public and consumer campaigns, press/blogger focused initiatives, brand inside work and informational symposiums and forums for varying types of business, all of which are message lead and revolve around relationship building. As creative director I work with multiple designers across different genres including interiors, exhibits, graphics, video, audio and digital design with the goal to craft the ultimate experience for a brands key audience. My journey to get here has been varied and surprising, and never quite how I planned it! I look forward to sharing insights and experiences with you so that you might be better equipped to plan your career in the creative industry.

Mubarak Marafa

Freelance Digital Designer

Research Assistant in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I specialise in intermedia works involving video installations, kinetic installations, robotics and more. I began in Creative Media because of an always present interest in the relationship between Art and Technology. Growing up I've always had a firm interest in computers from an artistic view. I taught myself to use a computer for art from a very early stage with programs like Adobe Photoshop and 3DS Max. As I developed in my academic life, I gravitated more and more towards art while keeping technology close to me as a tool for the work that I create. I have taken part in large scale projects that have taken me overseas ranging from Data Visualisation to Kinetic Sculptures to Interactive Environments. I have skills and experience in 3D printing and rapid prototyping, interface design and basic electronics.

Timothy Wong

Creative Director / Founder

I am both a graphic designer and a handcrafter. I was born in Hong Kong, but moved to San Francisco Bay Area when I was a teenager. I was profoundly influenced by the local street art and culture which led me to pursue graphic design in school. After graduation, I worked as a bartender and a sushi chef at Goolge. Since then I found my passion in making things by hand. Coming back to Hong Kong in 2009, I started my career as a graphic designer at OUTSIGN.Lab, a renowned creative house in Hong Kong, responsible for design and production of numerous projects and events for brands including O’Neill, Billabong, Clockenflap, BLOHK Party and Dmop. I was involved in designing and building the soapbox car which won the Red Bull Soapbox Race in 2012. In the same year I formed Mo Against The Machine crew with Ryan Hui, talented singer-song writer, supporting the Movember campaign, holding events such as dodgeball and drift trikes to raise funds. In 2014 I was the face of Movember campaign globally. I founded Quest terrarium in 2015 and my creativity in making moss terrariums was spotted by clients such as Nike, Jordan brand, Land Rover, Jaguar, Juice_hk, CLOT, Juiced, Crossover (Malaysia), Mano, Coffee Academics, Elephant Grounds, Woaw and Nha Trang. QUEST Terrarium is not only a terrarium brand, but it also specialises in miniature and moss decor installations. In 2015 QUEST Terrarium was asked to be a part of a collaboration with HIGHSNOBIETY for making a ‘SNEAKER HEAD’ terrarium series for NIKE Air Max Day.

Now QUESTterrarium has been featured in HYPEBEAST, Lane Crawford, Obscure, Home Journal, Affordable Art Fair, ELLE Magazine, Hong Kong Tatler, 48 Hours SCMP, City Magazine HK, VMagazine, Ketchup, 東Touch, TaoBao Magazine and Milk Magazine as well as web platforms on HYPEBEAST and Highsnobiety. Now I continue using moss as my main medium to make art.

Barney McCann

Creative Director at a Design Agency

I’m a designer from London, my experience of design at the age of many of the students at Design Day was awful; I went to a really bad school and had an especially bad design tutor. At GCSE I got a D in Graphic Design. I didn’t think there was a possible career in that direction and began to look in to other potential futures. I went on to Central Saint Martins and got a 1st Class Hons. Degree in Graphic and Interactive Design and also Graphic Design Moving Image. During my Degree I started a Production Company with a friend, making music videos, documentaries and adverts, upon graduating I continued that work as we spread out in to broader Graphic Design and Future Technologies. I was then contacted by a company in Hong Kong looking for a Creative Director. Now I work full-time in that role here in Hong Kong while straddling my freelance work as often as I can.

Jerome Tam

Director , Rush Hour Media

My co-founder, Jake Sharp, and I met at the University of Leeds, where he studied New Media and I did an undergraduate degree in Aviation. While he was studying for a Master’s degree in Computer Science and working for web agencies in the UK, I was pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot. I got as far as the flight grading process for Cathay Pacific (I was one of the final eight candidates that year). Long story short, life had a different plan for me – Rush Hour Media, the company Jake and I eventually co-founded. When Jake decided to move to HK in 2011, he researched the web design agencies here and realised many of them had a very low standard of work – most of the websites weren’t even responsive (they didn’t work well on mobile devices)! So we decided to start a company that would bring simple, responsive and well designed websites to HK at a reasonable price point.
