Rupert Inman
Buro Happold, Senior Structural Engineer
After graduating in 2008 with a first class degree from the University of Bristol, Rupert began his career as a structural engineer in a multi-disciplinary design team at Arup. In 2011, he seized the opportunity to become one of the first members of the new structural engineering team at Foster + Partners. Through working side by side with architects from the very start of projects he learnt a great deal about an in-depth design process from project conception to construction. Most notably he played a key role in the design of a series of steel-framed flagship Apple stores in the USA and across China. Rupert is driven by a strong desire to become an engineer able to work closely with architects and all members of the project team and to influence designs from conception with a creative, innovative and technical approach. His experience to date has left him with a global outlook on the profession, which he continues to develop whilst working abroad.
John Denton
Director LEAD Architects
Architectural and Interior Designer
John is a Director at Lead 8, with his focus being the Interior architectural design of projects. He started his career in the field of Mechanical Production Engineering, completing an apprenticeship in the drawing office of a UK engineering company, which produced specialist machine components. It was here where he honed his technical skills on the drawing board, during the age before computers. Although his experience in engineering was rewarding and was a tremendous foundation for the future, it was his passion for design that forced him to change direction and pursue a creative career. Subsequently John has been involved in art and design for almost 30 years. Examples of this philosophy are inherent in projects in which he was previously involved, such as Elements Mall, Hong Kong; IAPM Mall, Shanghai; IFC Mall, Shanghai; and Seoul International Finance Centre, Korea.

Mubarak Marafa
Freelance Digital Designer
Research Assistant in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
I specialise in intermedia works involving video installations, kinetic installations, robotics and more. I began in Creative Media because of an always present interest in the relationship between Art and Technology. Growing up I've always had a firm interest in computers from an artistic view. I taught myself to use a computer for art from a very early stage with programs like Adobe Photoshop and 3DS Max. As I developed in my academic life, I gravitated more and more towards art while keeping technology close to me as a tool for the work that I create. I have taken part in large scale projects that have taken me overseas ranging from Data Visualisation to Kinetic Sculptures to Interactive Environments. I have skills and experience in 3D printing and rapid prototyping, interface design and basic electronics.

Jerome Tam
Director , Rush Hour Media
My co-founder, Jake Sharp, and I met at the University of Leeds, where he studied New Media and I did an undergraduate degree in Aviation. While he was studying for a Master’s degree in Computer Science and working for web agencies in the UK, I was pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot. I got as far as the flight grading process for Cathay Pacific (I was one of the final eight candidates that year). Long story short, life had a different plan for me – Rush Hour Media, the company Jake and I eventually co-founded. When Jake decided to move to HK in 2011, he researched the web design agencies here and realised many of them had a very low standard of work – most of the websites weren’t even responsive (they didn’t work well on mobile devices)! So we decided to start a company that would bring simple, responsive and well designed websites to HK at a reasonable price point.

Katarina Ivarsson
Founder and CEO Boris Design Studio
Boris was founded in HK six years ago by Swedish designers Anna Karlsson and Katarina Ivarsson. In these 6 years we have managed to build a good reputation, a solid client list and healthy relationships with producers and manufacturers in a variety of businesses. With our location here in HK comes a unique blend of our Scandinavian design heritage and creativity and the hands-on approach of being close to the production. - Product and Packaging design which is pretty much what is says on the tin. We help clients innovate and design new products and packaging solutions across many different industries but consumer electronics is our main focus. We strive to always deliver striking design with a sensibility towards the brand in question and the end user while keeping to the unique set of conditions that each new project entails. - Identity design is our second pillar and includes branding, communication design, graphic design, interaction design etc. Together with the Product and Packaging design we offer a complete range of design services all the way from the earliest stages of building a new brand through, portfolio managment to product design and development and social media marketing! - The third pillar is Research Design where we partner with research institutes and industry leaders in Sweden and internationally (for example Microsoft Research, Nokia, Ericsson and IKEA) to provide creative tools and design thinking as a way to push the development forward and also to help visualize often complex and abstract future applications. Under this umbrella we have created a sustainable series of lights and home furnishings made in China for the 2012 Milan Furniture Fair and a lamp awarded the Hong Kong Lighting Award in 2013. In 2013 we were awarded the prestigious Perspective Award 40 under 40 for our achievements within the field of Product Design. In May 2014 Boris Design Studio was awarded SwedCham Annual business award for our achievements in creative entrepreneurship. In March 2015 the studio was recognised with the iF Product Award.
